Ludovic Rodo Pissarro (1878-1952)

Ludovic Rodo Pissarro was the fourth son of Camille Pissarro, born in Paris.  At an early age he was encouraged by his father to draw directly from the nature. In 1894, at the age of sixteen, Rodo published his first wood engravings in the journal, Le Pere Peinard. In 1914 Ludovic moved toLondon, because of the outbreak of war. He worked there as an artist with his older brother Lucien.

Artist’s Statement

Named after his father’s close friend, painter Ludovic Piette he soon became known as Rodo. Although he studied with his father and painted traditional landscapes, he was more closely associated with artists like Toulouse Lautrec. He was fascinated by the cabarets, night clubs and music halls and these became the subjects for his paintings.
