This four week class will challenge attendees to make new and bold artworks. With an emphasis on collage and composition you’ll learn to balance forms, colour and patterns. As an added component, each week a basic history of abstraction will inspire and add discussion as we work. Amaze yourself and challenge your skills while we look at classic abstract images and contemporary work in our own Artworld Fine Art gallery!
Over the four weeks, not only will you be exposed to new compositional ideas and creative conversations, but you’ll also have access to materials perhaps you haven’t worked with before. We’ll work with masking tape, modeling paste, palette knives, sand, leaves and texturing tools. Also each week will have a different still life set up with common and unique objects to draw inspiration from.
We’ll talk about how controlling subtle colour changes and collage elements with abstract painting can lead you on an incredible path to making stunning new imagery. Learning to draw inspiration from objects and the world around us will add a new layer of knowledge for artists of any style and any background.
Week 1: Techniques: Collage and Chaos
Week 2: Revisiting the Basics: Colour Theory and Composition
Week 3: Experimentation: Splatter, Texture and Style
Week 4: Balance: Strong Forms vs. Subtlety and Nuance
NOTE: Each week participants will be able to take home one or more pieces on canvas and board. Also each week will include a unique history and slideshow component and still life set-up unique to that class!
