PORTRAITURE
Drawing someone’s portrait is a wonderful gesture and probably the most attempted subject for drawing and unfortunately often the least successful. We spend our lives looking at faces and without really knowing it, register thousands of small nuances in each face we encounter. This level of observation makes it easier for us to communicate however if makes it difficult to capture in a 2d surface with a pencil or brush.
Like all drawing, practice and time will always improve your ability to capture what you set out to draw however there are some points and tips that will make you a better drawer and more successful at capturing a person’s face as well as making it fun.
We will start with an introduction class drawing several small portraits. The next 2 classes we will break the face down into its parts looking to gain proficiency in finding shapes and plains that make up the face and ultimately the personality that reveals the individual.
