Enjoy a friendly, creative environment for all levels from beginner to advanced where we will learn a variety of techniques to allow you to create beautiful watercolour paintings. We will explore wet in wet, dry brush, charging in and many other techniques. For returning students these classes will hone your skills and give you an opportunity to go deeper into this medium with confidence.
During this four week session, we will complete several paintings, the first being an abstract floral which we will explore wet in wet then negative painting. Suggested paper size is a minimum of 12 x 12” or any size you choose.
The next pieces will be a still Life where we will discover the beauty of blending and charging in with colour. We will work on several examples to capture this technique.
Materials required for this session are:
Watercolour pallet, water container, full set of watercolour paints, paper towels, watercolour paper (I highly recommend Arches 140 lb cold pressed)
1/2” and 1” soft bristle flat brush Number 1 and a number 4 and 6 round brush
Here is what our students say about Doris’ Classes:
“I went into acrylic classes a bit apprehensive, having not been actively painting for several years. Doris’ amazing personality, supportive manner and calm encouragement quickly won the day. The class exercises she selected expanded our creative thinking and fostered our creative expression, which was her intent. We learned that all we do is a “work in process”; there is no perfect piece of art, and there are many ways and methods to express ourselves artistically. I’m forever grateful that I took the chance and took Doris’ classes and thank you to Artworld Fine Art for sharing your artist and beautiful gallery with us. Linda H.
In Sept 2019, I took watercolour classes with Doris Pontieri given over 4 Wednesdays. This was a wonderful experience for me. Not only did I learn a great deal and have a lot of fun but the end result is that I wanted to learn paint and I am painting! As a novice, with essentially no painting experience and in a class which included people with significant painting abilities, she made me feel valued, important and skilled. Looking forward to the next session. Tina R.
About two years ago when I went to Artworld for a wine and paint night I looked around at the various pieces for sale. The winter birch series immediately caught my eye and I knew one day that I would buy one. I loved the peaceful wintertime atmosphere it created. When I found out that the artist Doris was also teaching classes I signed up. I took art in school but unfortunately my full time job is about as far from that field I could have so I wanted to do something I enjoyed despite the fact that I hadn’t painted in 25 years.
Doris is one of the most patient and encouraging teachers that I have met with a fantastic sense of humour and regardless of what level of experience you have makes you feel like you belong and are doing a great job. I would highly recommend anyone interested in art taking classes with Doris. You won’t regret it. Teresa
