During this four week session, we will complete two paintings, the first being a simpler still life which we will explore light, shadows, stippling

The second project will be larger (any size canvas you are comfortable with, no smaller than 11 x 14″). For this piece we will examine the work of the
great French painter Edgar Degas. We will deconstruct one of his dancer paintings and create our own version using skills and techniques of our own.

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR
Doris was raised in Toronto, where she completed her post-secondary education at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute majoring in psychology. She has been teaching the art of painting in all mediums for ten years, with her students enjoying her emotional approach to art. Doris’ works in oil, acrylic and watercolour have been shown and sold from Europe to Australia, and featured in international art shows including Art Expos in New York, Texas, Chicago and Philadelphia.
Doris is primarily a self-taught artist, believing that choosing this route as opposed to conventional training has allowed her to grow instinctively as an artist rather than adopting a style belonging to someone else. She has studied extensively over the past 30 years of painting, the effects and characteristics of all mediums and how they relate to her vision as an artist. Intense research and development in ways of artistic expression has moved her forward with her career and abilities, giving her many tools to share with her students.
Doris has been invited to participate in the Autumn Art Show at the McMichael Canadian Art Gallery for many years, consistently ranked in the top five painters. Doris has had her work selected for exhibition at the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts (SBNA) annual show at the Louvre in Paris for the past 4 years and has received a medal for Outstanding Artwork from the Paris Society of Arts, Science & Letters. She was also personally selected by Marina Picasso to exhibit her works at the Artists of the World show in Cannes, France in 2013, 2014 & 2015.
Doris Pontieri has been instructing art classes in the mediums of acrylic and watercolour for over 20 years. Her emotional and impressionistic approach to painting comes through in her classes with a strong focus on discovering the true artist within. In her own words “See the world the way you see the world, but paint the world the way you feel it. Accomplishing this will allow you to show a glimpse of who you really are in every painting.”
Doris has been teaching acrylic and watercolour classes at Artworld Fine Art for the past four years. Previously she has taught at; The McMichael Canadian Art Collection Gallery, Doris Pontieri Art Studio, Magiolly’s Art, Hummingbird Education Centre, Palgrave School of Art, Donaldson School of Art, Barga School of Art, Italy.
