4 Week Winter Session Oils – Week 2

COURSE DESCRIPTION

This will be the first in a series of 4 week sessions each focusing on a specific element of hyper-realistic painting. Future course content will include volume, texture, transparency and more. Students will work on small studies to develop skill and understanding of the specified element. These skills are of tremendous value to any artist, regardless of their usual style and medium.

MATERIALS REQUIRED

  • 1 pre-gessoed wood panel 8×10 inches
  • brushes (these are listed as watercolour brushes, but they are best for the techniques you will be learning)

Curry’s 2600 series round brushes – Sizes 00 and 1

Curry’s 2601 series blade brushes – 1/4” and 1/2”

Oil Paints:

  • titanium white
  • naples yellow
  • yellow Ochre
  • prussian blue
  • burnt sienna
  • violet

NOTE: returning students will only require a new 8×10 panel

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

 Richard was born in northern Saskatchewan. After graduating from the Alberta College of art with honors, he moved to Toronto.

With a broad knowledge of mediums and styles, Richard A Jacobson has maintained a distinguished career of 30+ years, as a writer, painter and educator. He lectures regularly on art, and children’s books through the  Toronto District School Board, Toronto Catholic District School Board, Calgary Board of Education and The Canadian Library Association and he has also taught privately and at the afterschool art program at Branksome Hall.

As an illustrator he painted the trillium for the Ontario driver’s license, the leaf for the Air Canada as well as 19 children’s books. He has written and published 4 children’s books winning several awards including The Amelia Frances Howard Gibbon’s award gold medal and the Ruth Schwartz award.

As a painter he has painted portraits of David Thomson, Margaret Atwood , Robertson Davies, Sir Christopher Ondaatje, Bill gates Senior and Sir Richard Francis Burton (permanent collection of the Royal Geographical Society in London England).

He has been featured in Smithsonian and Applied arts magazine as well as The Artist’s Magazine.

Rick continues to live in Toronto.
