with High Realism Oil Painter
A little History on paint, its origins from cave paintings to how we know it now made in factory. A little on how this has helped influence changes in paintings from realism to abstract. Within the talk we can mention a few details on how paint is made today, and what to look for when buying it.
Colour, Demonstration time!
Probably the most fun part of the talk. I will first explain the three different qualities of colour, and the difference between transparencies in paint as well as my approach of a simple pallette.
I will then demonstrate on palette paper how to control the effects of the colour, and what the effects look like, how to mix your own blacks. Show a little on how I prefer to mix colour when painting at the same time. On canvas we can show what the effects of layering a painting are versus, unlayered. Also showing how to apply impasto and why, at the same time I will introduce different mediums and explain their uses and what to be careful of.
After the demonstration I can talk a bit about different brands, and stores. Also I will mention the colours I mainly prefer.
I’ll talk a little bit about how it’s made, and it’s different qualities. What to think about when buying it, and where to buy it.
When building your painting there are three main options to go with, panels, stretcher bars and murals. Mainly talk about the differences between panels and stretcher bars, how to prepare them and they’re pluses and minuses.
Some tips when applying gesso to canvas to make it smoother, also the gesso I prefer.
Not sure if we’ll get to brushes but if we do I could explain the basics and different kinds and what to use them for etc. If we somehow get past brushes and there’s still time I could talk about varnish as well.
