Full Biography

Sandra Robson

Sandra was born in Toronto, but grew up on a farm. There were no crayons, pencils or paper; but it didn’t suppress a natural tendency to draw. She used sticks, rocks, sand and even snow. It didn’t matter if it washed away – because tomorrow was the opportunity to start fresh.

After graduating from University of Toronto with a science degree; she quickly understood that her true passion was in the arts. The Sheridan College Illustration program provided a foundation towards an established career in graphic design – fine tuning the elements and principles of design.

Years of graphic design, art direction and creating illustrations; brought her full circle back to her painting roots. Tapping into intuition, Sandra utilizes experience and energy to guide her through her paintings. Inspired by people, laughter, nature and music – she loves every day and the possibilities it brings. Her paintings have won awards, placement in multiple juried exhibits and can found displayed in homes across Canada, the US and Europe.

Artist’s Statement

“With graphic design as a foundation, I’m on an artistic journey with intuition as my guide and my heart as a compass – transcending towards a natural passion for creativity.

I’m drawn to the north and intrigued by the trees I find during my hikes through the Bruce Trail. There is a wonderful network of roots that nurture Cedar trees with incredible endurance, silent strength and the ability to survive in extreme conditions. They reflect the spirit of the land and the Canadian people that dig deep to live here. This display of strength captured my attention, filled my palette and energized my desire to paint. Each brushstroke celebrates expressive movement.

Society taught me to colour between the lines, and yet I’m drawn to play outside of those lines. That is my comfort zone and the canvas is my playground. Painting is an expressive indulgence, which provides the opportunity to explore an intimate conversation with my inner voice. The feeling is similar to untangling a knot to achieve balance and a sense of whole. I have been known to lose myself within a painting and yet I am very much found. Through my eyes, I bring a touch of nature indoors. ”
